Special Mention for “We are Fire” by Karen Vazquez Guadarrama

Congratulations to director Karen Vazquez Guadarrama, protagonist Mar Maremoto, showrunners Vincent Coen and Guillaume Vandenberghe and the whole team of “We are Fire”, the Mexican film of Draw For Change. The film just received a Special Mention from the Youth Jury at doxs! – dokumentarfilme für kinder und jugendliche.

Here’s an excerpt of the jury statement

The film addresses a number of very important topics: Femicide, patriarchal structures and sexualized violence. Thanks to the likeable protagonist Mar, who deals with the savage stand against systematic discrimination in her own artistic-creative and activist way, we were given good access to the difficult subject matter – despite the lack of space in Mexico … For us as a jury, it is important to offer the film and those affected a platform and to create security, which is why we would like to praise it here.
