Synopsis
The six-year-old friends Aatos, Amine and Flo live in Brussels. Together they experience their small adventures and imagine who should sit in front of their flying carpet. Discovering the city or climbing trees in the woods, they always have a lot of fun. Until terroristic attacks in Brussels disrupt their quiet world. Suddenly armed soldiers patrol the streets and people come to light candles.
‘Aatos and the world’ is a shortened version for children of the internationally acclaimed documentary ‘Gods of Molenbeek’. Filmed through the eyes of children wriggling along the big questions of life in a playful way. A warm portrait of a joyful friendship.
The range of cultural differences between Aatos, Amine and Flo represent perfectly, according to director Reetta, the diversity with which Brussels, but also the whole of Europe, is confronted these times. The three characters show that it is possible to live together with so many different cultures, without having to think in boxes.
