Ma vie en papier wins Interreligious Award at Visions du Reel

Honoured to win the Interreligious Award at Visions du Réel. Below the jury statement:

A film that captures the kindness of its director, aside from her characters, who she cares about so much. From drawings made by each member of the family, the scenes reveal fragments of dreams confronted with the realities that the protagonists must face. Vida Dena uncovers with attention and tenderness the problems specific to exile: shaken identities, sometimes difficult integrations, but also those specific forces that make us dream and make life stronger than anything. Tense between past and future, life and dream, roots and identity, this original film features drawings that are integrated in an alluring and poetic animation.

My Paper Life will world premiere at Visions du Réel 2022

Very honoured that Vida Dena’s film My Paper Life is invited to the official competition of Visions du Réel.

The film sales will be handled by Cat & Docs.

Nominated by Eric Hynes, First Look Film Festival, MoMI New York
“It’s one of the reasons I love documentary. A filmmaker embedding herself with a talented group of collaborators in an area that allows me to come into a world I would normally have no access to. Expressing their lives in a way that’s truly accessible.

“Seeing [Tanya, the film’s main subject] navigate certain scenes and certain days, being filmed… I was just a human being watching something all women navigate: taking other people’s feelings in account without first taking your own into account. Seeing that on her face was really, really powerful.”
