“Love is not an orange” UK premiere at London Film Fest Week 8th of December

London Film Week presents the UK Premiere of Love is not an Orange by Otilia Babara.

Through the use of intimate private archives, Otilia Babara depicts the fragility of family bonds through the eyes of a generation of Moldovan mothers and daughters who were forced to live apart in order to survive. While doing so, she portrays a post-soviet country caught in a crossroads of history. A country whose women were unwittingly put in charge of making the transition from communism to capitalism.

Love is not an Orange premiering at Dok Leipzig

We’re very honoured to announce that Otilia Babara first feature documentary LOVE IS NOT AN ORANGE is premiering at Dok Leipzig.

A delicate documentary about a generation of girls who grew up with absent mothers, economic migrants to Western Europe after the Soviet Union’s collapse. A ritualised mail exchange took place: mothers sent money and goods, while children sent videotapes in return. This intimate home video archive was the material of our film.

Young Plato shortlisted for the Grierson Awards

Young Plato has been shortlisted for the very prestigious 2022 Grierson Awards, run by The Grierson Trust in the UK. Our ‘wee film’ about principal Kevin Mc Arevey and his excellent team’s work at Holy Cross Boys’ PS is one of only 8 films shortlisted from around the world in the Best Cinema Documentary category, and we are up against the giants of documentary – 2 National Geographic, 1 Netflix, 1 HBO, 1 Apple TV docs, our good friend, Jerry Rothwell’s The Reason I Jump and The Academy award winner 2022, Summer of Soul. Stiff competition but Young Plato has a huge heart and like David against Goliath, we will prevail.
