‘Madre del Oro’ at the Pitching du Réel – Visions du Réel 2016

Directors Mary Jiménez and Bénédicte Liénard together with Julie Frères (Dérives) and Hanne Phlypo preparing for the pitching du Réel at Visions du Réel with their new documentary project ‘Madre del Oro’, set in Peru.

Both filmmakers have had several films in the official competition of Visions du Réel in the past.

This new project raised a lot of interest both from coproducers, distributors and international televisions.

Sunnyside struck by several unexpected events

Before director Frederik Carbon had a chance to finish the shooting of his film about architect Daniel Liebermann and sound artist Henry ‘Sandy’ Jacobs, the two old men unexpectedly passed away within three weeks of each other. Despite these unfortunate events, ‘Sunnyside’ is still very much alive.
The film now includes the people who stay behind and try to come to terms with the end of an era. ‘Sunnyside’ becomes an even more relevant and interesting portrait of two visionary and influential artists.

‘Traces d’un village’ and ‘Fields of hope’ receive support Flanders Film Fund (VAF)

We are very grateful to the Flanders Film Fund (VAF) for supporting both documentaries we’re working on for the moment: ‘Traces d’un village’, by Nicolas Graux produced by Julie Freres (Dérives), coproduced by Clin d’oeil films and the feature length documentary ‘Fields of Hope’ by Olivier Magis. More on these docs will follow in the next months.

We would like to thank the organization, the tutors and all filmmakers present. It was a great experience!

Note: Pieter was the first European filmmaker to pitch at DocMontevideo.

Best international feature length documentary goes to Waiting for August @Hot Docs

We’re so honored to receive the award of best international feature length documentary for Waiting for August @Hot Docs 2014.

Jury statement : Tonight’s winner is a beautifully crafted vérité film that reveals its central characters through the details of everyday life. With balance and nuance it shows a family dealing with the stress created by harsh economic realities. However, what makes Waiting for August truly special is that by the time it is over you will have laughed, cried, and become one of the family.

The film received also a special jury mention @Visions du Réel.

Jury statement : For their humanity, for the precision of their mise-en-scene and their future impact . All the best ! Boa sorte ! Buena suerte ! Buona fortuna !
